Bankers to improve credit deposit ratio in Bihar: CM

DEPOSIT in YOUR own BANK

PATNA: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday expressed concern over the low credit-deposit ratio in the state and asked bankers to initiate steps to enhance it to the national level of 59 per cent. "If Bihar is to develop, its CD ratio which is hovering around 32 per cent has to be enhanced and brought to the national level of 59 per cent," Kumar told the 18th state level bankers meet here. Kumar exhorted the bankers to make a positive move to develop the state. As against Rs 46,133.80 crore deposits with various nationalised banks, their credit flow was a low Rs 14,607 crore. He asked the bankers to give special attention in the proper implementation of the shallow tube well programme, in helping the self-help groups and in distribution of kisan credit cards. Asking the bankers to open their branches in far-flung areas, Kumar said he had received information that 37 blocks in the state were without banks and this resulted in vested interests opening their 'private banks' giving loans to the farmers on exorbitant interest rates. Police had tracked some of such private banks, he said. Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said the annual credit plan of the state for next year had been fixed at Rs 10,000 crore and sought the bankers' cooperation in achieving the target.
