Clean PATNA , Green PATNA : NGOs will take care

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the secretary of the Urban Development department P. K. Basu said that in next seven years most major jobs currently carried out by the PMC will be handed over to various private companies and NGOs on contractual basis."The shift from public to private hands will first be visible in larger cities and later expanded to the rural areas," Basu said.Similar steps have been taken in Hyderabad and Ranchi with outstanding results and the same will be adopted in Bihar, he said.Private companies / NGOs will also be responsible for disposing off solid waste in a scientific manner, Basu said adding maintenance of various parks in the capital will also be taken away from the realm of government responsibility and handed over to private firms.Under the new scheme, companies will charge Rs. 1 each day from residence owners to dispose off their garbage thus sparing the city from turning into a giant landfill, the new PMC chief Atul Kumar said. The new service is expected to begin service in a couple of days, he said.Mayor of Patna Krishna Murari Yadav has convened a meeting of all ward councilors on Wednesday to discuss the hellish condition of the city due to the recent strike by the PMC employees.Interestingly, despite the official withdrawal of the strike a few days ago, the PMC staff is yet to return to their jobs.
