134 rural road projects approved for Bihar

New Delhi, June 28 (IANS) The empowered committee in the rural development ministry Wednesday approved 134 rural road project proposals for Bihar, while those from Maharashtra, Orissa and Punjab were given an in-principle approval.

The projects approved for Bihar under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) is expected to cost Rs.4.95 billion, according to a statement issued by the ministry.'These projects covering a length of 1,264 km in different districts of Bihar will be executed by four agencies, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC), National Hydro-Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) and National Project Construction Corporation (NPCC),' the statement said.The CPWD will execute 17 road works covering 157 km in Begusarai and Darbhanga at a total cost of Rs.721.34 million while NBCC will execute 90 road works covering 877.09 km stretching across Araria, Bhagalpur, Jamui, Khagaria, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Munger, Purnia, Saharsa, Sheikhpura and Supaul districts at a total cost of Rs.3.46 billion.The NHPC has been assigned two road projects covering 13.32 km in the East Champaran district, estimated to cost Rs.54.56 million.The remaining 25 projects have been assigned to NPCC. Covering 217.18 km in Bhojpur, Kaimur, Patna and Rohtas districts, the cost of these projects has been estimated to be Rs.708.48 million.
