Patna, Feb 27: The Bihar government today presented a Rs 33,257.08 crore budget for 2007-08 showing a small deficit of Rs 13.78 crore with no fresh tax proposals and putting emphasis on poverty alleviation and unemployment eradication, human resource, infrastructure and agriculture development. Presenting the budget in the assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who also holds the Finance portfolio, said steps taken by the government for controlling wasteful expenditure had resulted in improved performance. According to budget estimates, revenue receipts were pegged at Rs 27441.03 crore and capital receipts at Rs 5802.27 crore taking the total receipts to Rs 33,243.30 crore. On the other hand, the state government proposed a total expenditure of Rs 33,257.08 crore, including Rs 21,291.26 crore on non-plan head and Rs 11,965.82 crore on plan head, including the state plan of Rs 10,200 crore. Modi said the projected fiscal deficit of Rs 13.78 crore would be covered by mobilisation of additional resources.
