The Magadh University (MU) seems to have grown money-wise. In its quest for big bucks, the university will soon set up a five-star hotel at Bodh Gaya. However, the hotel will not be a purely commercial venture. For, apart from generating much needed money for the MU, it will serve as the training ground for the students who will enroll for the hotel management course that the university is set to introduce.
According to authorities, this ingenuous initiative makes solid economic sense. Bodh Gaya happens to be the most well-known tourist centre in the state which draws visitors not only from across the country but also from abroad.
The proposed state-of-the-art hotel will not only enrich the coffers of the university but also help students get education in the concerned vocation under the Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology to be launched simultaneously. Nationally reputed Banarasi Das Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, New Delhi, has agreed to pitch in with know-how and other help in the venture. Confirming the move, MU Vice-Chancellor Dr BN Pandey said that he had met officials of Banarasi Das Chandiwala Institute at New Delhi on Sunday and requested them to provide the design and other basic necessities for the project.
On its part, the university would provide land on its sprawling campus close to the historical site of the Buddha temples. For the execution of the project, the university would seek financial aid from the state government as well as the University Grants Commission.
The Vice Chancellor further stated that being an important tourist spot in the Buddhist Circuit, Bodh Gaya attracts a large number of foreigners and this would be to the advantage of the hotel. It would also serve as an institution for imparting practical education to the students admitted to the MU Institute of Hotel Management.
Describing it as a dream project, Pandey said that both the hotel and the institute would open a new avenue of employment for the students of Bihar.
