200 from Patna made it to India’s Intellectual Treasure (IIT)

They are Super, they are Genius, they are F(I)IT and they have DESIRE to do something special. Bihari students have done it once again. A day after a Patna boy, Manish Kumar, topped the CBSE Class-Xth examination in the country 200 students studying in various coaching institutes of the state capital have made it to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology.

The Super-30, a coaching institute essentially meant for students hailing from poor and weaker section of the society, have done it for the fifth consecutive year. Almost all the students qualified. While 28 of them got selected in the result declared on May 30 the rest two, coming from Dalit community, are sure to make it after the SC/ST results are announced.

Not only did the Super-30 excelled, other institutes such as FIIT-JEE and Genius-40 also did extremely well. In all 79 students from FIIT-JEE and 34 from Genius-40 got selected this year. Twenty students of Rahi Competition House, 16 from I-DESIRE, 10 from BMR Society and four from CIIT-JEE made it to the IIT. Fourteen of these 200 students are in the top 500.

While Anand Kumar and Abhayanand (Additional Director General of Police) of Super-30 have become a household name, the new entrants in the field of IIT coaching have not fared badly either. Genius-40 has also been providing free tuition, boarding and lodging to students coming from the economically weaker section of the society for the last three years. While 28 of the Super-30 candidates qualified last year, 34 of the Genius-40 made it in 2007 against 35 in 2006.

I-DESIRE, an organization set up by some IITians in memory of late IITian, Satyendra Dubey, who was killed by some mafia in November 2003 is also rendering a similar service to the poor students. It too has come out with flying colour.

Bihari students have always been doing well in the various competitive examinations, but what is new is the recent trend of a large number of students coming from the weakest section of the society making it to the top. In the Civil Service exam too a couple of those who qualified are from lower middle class and have a very ordinary schooling. But the institutes like Super-30 and even for that matter Genius-40 and I-DESIRE have made it possible for the students from extremely poor background to reach the top. Those who qualified included the son of a watchman in apartment, unemployed man, small-time tailor and road-roller driver.

Pranav Prince of Super-30 is ranked 162 while Deeptanshu of FIIT-JEE secured 167th position. Among girls of Bihar Udita Singh with 209 is the best.
