Great leap in IT initiatives in state

State Data Centre and Wide Area Network established by National Informatics Centre (NIC) was inaugurated on Tuesday by CM Nitish Kumar who stressed that Bihar has now become a leading state in the country with availability of this facility. He said this could help in speeding up activities relating to e-governance and monitoring physical and financial progress of the schemes, planning and implementation of rural development schemes and others. "This is an extraordinary achievement of the state and will lead to qualitative improvement in the functioning of the government," the CM said adding the high speed data exchange facility is made available at the doorsteps of district administrations. Union minister of state for communication and information technology Dr Shakil Ahmad, who presided over the function, said the ministry is spending Rs 23,000 crore on national e-governance plan for creating data centre infrastructure. He emphasised on making all the government services accessible to the common man in their locality through common service delivery outlets and ensuring efficiency, transparency and reliability of such services at affordable costs to realise the basic needs of the common man. Bihar minister of science and technology Anil Kumar focused on combined efforts of the state and NIC in carrying out various projects like property registration, treasuries, rural development and land records. Director general, NIC, B K Gairola emphasised on making infrastructure facilities available to the NIC. He said NIC has built up large pool of e-governance products which can be extremely useful for faster e-governance initiatives. During the function all the districts of Bihar were connected through video conferencing facility.
