National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs) coming to BIHAR

The Centre would soon appoint a consultant for preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for effective functioning of the National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs).

Six new NIPERs, including the one formally inaugurated in Hyderabad on Friday, are being set up to meet the Indian pharmaceutical industry’s growing manpower requirement. Autonomous institution under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, NIPERs are proposed to be set up through public-private participation.

Arun Ramanathan, secretary, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, said the consultant was expected to prepare the DPR in the next six months, facilitating a road map for the NIPERs.

Though public-private partnership is necessary to take forward the research and manpower training initiatives in the pharma sector, NIPERs may vary from each other when it comes to the immediate role of the industry.

Each NIPER is being developed at an average cost of Rs 200 crore.

The other five NIPERs would come up at Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hajipur (Bihar), Guwahati and Rai Bareli (Uttar Pradesh).
