In a historic move, the NTPC, the Bihar government and the Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) today signed a memorandum of understanding to promote a joint venture company with the objective to establish and operate a 1980 MW coal-based power station at Nabinagar in Bihar’s Aurangabad district. The project will cost Rs 9500 crore.
The MoU was singed by Mr Rajesh Gupta, energy secretary, government of Bihar, Mr T Sankarlingam, CMD, NTPC Ltd and BSEB chairman Mr Swapan Mukherjee in the presence of the chief minister Mr Nitish Kumar at the latter's official residence at 1, Anne Marg.
Addressing the media persons, the CM described it as a historic move adding that the projects, if completed, would make up power necessity of the state. The first unit is expected to start generating power in 48 months (four years) from the date of main plant award and subsequent units at an intervals of 9 months thereafter.
NTPC is India’s largest power generation company with an installed capacity of 27, 904 MW through 26 power stations and having 20 per cent of all India installed capacity.
