Buddha Park to cost Rs 125 crore

PATNA: An elegant Buddha Memorial Park will come up on the old Bankipur jail land very soon at a cost of Rs 125 crore.

The contract was given to Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC) which digitally designed the prototype of the park and informed about its design plan to CM Nitish Kumar and senior officials here on Friday.

After watching the design, Nitish made some suggestions. He said last year the 2550th year of Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha was observed and the park should reflect his teachings and sermons which are followed and respected throughout the world.

Nitish said the park on a land of 20 acres facing Patna Junction should be highly attractive and meet international standard and also take into account environment levels. He also asked the officials to take steps for its maintenance and upkeep.

Stupas will be constructed all around and the urn containing holy relics of Lord Buddha will be preserved there.

For the physically challenged visitors, special arrangements will be made inside the park for their movement. The parking space near the park will have capacity of 1,000 vehicles.
