PATNA: A super-speciality hospital will be established here for providing latest treatment of eye ailments. This was decided here on Sunday at a meeting chaired by chief minister Nitish Kumar.
Others who attended the meeting included Dr Rajyavardhan Azad, senior professor at Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Science, AIIMS, New Delhi, health minister Nand Kishore Yadav, health secretary Deepak Kumar, Bihar State Health Society acting director Uday Singh Kumawat and the CM's principal secretary.
After the meeting, Yadav said that since a number of people from the state visit eye hospitals in New Delhi, Chennai and other places, the government has deicded to set up a super-speciality hospital in Patna itself. He said the chief minister held detailed discussions with Dr Azad and health department officials in this regard.
"For the time being, a super-speciality eye hospital will be opened in the government hospital at Rajendra Nagar and very soon a separate hospital will be built up," said Yadav. He added that six doctors will be deputed there who will be sent for training to the Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Science, AIIMS. He said Dr Azad and other experts will also visit the hospital and check patients and conduct operations on given dates.
The health minister said the proposed hospital will function as an autonomous body and a separate director will be appointed for it.
He said it will be functional after the next monsoon.
