PATNA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said a special task force headed by development commissioners would be constituted very soon to suggest short and long term ways to keep Patna free from waterlogging during monsoon.
Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of Janata Durbar, Nitish said experts on drainage system, related agencies, engineers and geologists will also be included in the panel to do a detailed survey of the areas and find out the best possible way to solve this problem forever. Noted geologist R C Sinha would also be part of the panel.
He said the problem is also severe in others towns like Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Darbhanga and other places and the task force will also look into the problem of those areas. All the previous master plans and suggestions, if any, made earlier will also be looked into.
Nitish said the team members will tour all the affected areas and talk to the local people. The task force will prepare and submit an integrated plan for finding out permanent solutions to the waterlogging problem that is causing headache to the administration and plenty of woes to the residents.
The government will not hesitate to take all the necessary steps to solve this problem, he said, adding that the chief secretary will monitor the work of the task force.
A reporter wearing Bermuda told Nitish about the agonies of the affected people of Kankerbagh and said it was a man-made problem. The CM asked his aide to note down all the details and act accordingly.
Meanwhile, Patna DM Jeetendra Kumar Sinha held a meeting with all the magistrates and technicians deployed at sump houses, besides the officials of Patna Municipal Corporation and Water Board.
He also ordered action against all the absent employees. Sinha said if the authorities face any problem or hindrance in pumping out water they should immediately inform him. He said the sump houses should continue working as per the directive.
