State police finally join worldwide web

PATNA: Diretor general of police Shiv Chandra Jha on Wednesday launched state police's maiden website http://biharpolice.bih.nic.in at a function held at the police headquarters.

The portal opens with an introduction, Bihar Police: A Voyage of Excellence , which is an excerpt from a book written by former DG Sudhir Kumar Jha (retd.).

This apart, the website has all the details pertaining to police such as telephone directory of all the officers of the police hierarchy right from inspector to the DG as also all the offices of the police wings, including police stations located in remotest areas.

Besides, the website also carries information with regard to missing persons so that anyone browsing the site and knows such a person could provide vital lead to the police personnel concerned.

Details of stolen and looted vehicles and arms, and unidentified bodies have also been incorporated.

In course of time, passport verification status would also be displayed on the site so that persons applying for passport may have chance to see the actual position without moving from one office to another.

This would also accelerate the pace of working of police personnel at the police station level who normally sit on the file and deliberately delay the process of `police verification' until their palm is greased.

IG (CID) Rajesh Ranjan, who led a team of police officers in developing the website, informed the police officials and mediapersons that the site would also have 'secured part' which would incorporate statewide status of crime. The web-page would be updated at the end of very month, Ranjan added.

All senior police officials, including ADG (headquarters) D N Gautam, ADG (CID) Yashwant Malhotra, ADG (law and order) Anil Sinha and IGs, DIGs and SPs, were present on the occasion.

Earlier, DGP S C Jha inaugurated the website.
