Bhogendra Jha passes away

NEW DELHI: Veteran communist leader and former Member of Parliament from Bihar Bhogendra Jha passed away here on Tuesday. The octogenarian was admitted to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences last Friday in a critical condition.

Born at Barhi in Madhubani district of Bihar, he joined the freedom struggle at the age of 14 and was sent to jail by the British on several occasions. He joined the Communist Party of India in 1940 and was a pioneer of the land reforms movement. He fought for the marginalised and deprived sections. He represented Madhubani in the Lok Sabha for five terms.

The body of Jha was placed at the CPI headquarters here. General secretary A.B. Bardhan paid floral tributes on behalf of the CPI as did leaders of other parties including Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, Minister of State M.A.A. Fatima, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury, Ramchandra Paswan and Delhi legislator Mahabal Misra.

he was really a selfless leader. being MP for 5 terms and dont having own house is not a joke. he was available for general public all the time. his cotribution for land reform , bank nationalisation, panchayati raj act amendements to Cr pc, 42 nd amendment , oath taking in maithily, bringing of maithily in 8th constitution are only few .
