Patna (PTI): World famous Madhubani paintings will don this year's tableau from Bihar, which is set to showcase the vast tapestry of 3,000-year-old Mithila culture at the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
This year's themes for Bihar are world famous 'Madhubani paintings' and 'Saurath Sabha', the unique marriage tradition of Mithila, a release issued by the state government said.
The tableau, named "Mithila Ki Lok Sanskriti" (The folk culture of Mithila) would highlight the tradition of Mithila region encompassing 3,000 years old folk language, paintings and handicraft, dance etc.
The Madhubani art on the walls of mud houses in the area and its textiles produced in the region have acquired international acclaim, the release said.
The other attraction in the state's tableau would be Mithila's once famous 'Saurath Sabha', now a tradition on the verge of extinction.
The Saurath Sabha is a unique fair of eligible bachelors where the families of prospective brides assemble during a particular period every year to choose a groom without dowry.
