Purnia girl gets bravery award

Patna (PTI): A 15-year old girl from Purnia district was on Monday given the Gallantry Award for saving five children from being drowned during the 2007 Bihar floods.

Bihar Governor R.L. Bhatia handed over the award on behalf of the President to Farzana in a ceremony here. She was also presented with a cheque of Rs 45,000 from the State Government.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who was also present on the occasion, said that others should take lessons from her. He announced that the State Government would bear the cost of Farzana's education.

Earlier, she has also been awarded by the Hong Kong based Supreme Trust for her bravery.
