Show-cause notices to striking govt staff

PATNA: Toughening its stand on the ongoing strike of non-gazetted employees, the state government
on Friday started issuing show-cause notices to
the employees who did not report for duty.

The government had earlier came out with a communique in local dailies, claiming that resorting to strike was violation of Bihar Government Servant Conduct Rules, 1976. It had directed the striking employees to return to work within three days of the communique publication failing which disciplinary action would be initiated against them. The deadline expired on Friday.

The communique had also directed the drawing and disbursing officers concerned not to release the salary of striking employees for the strike period. "We had informed the employees about our stand," said Aamir Subhani, principal secretary, department of personnel and administrative reforms.

Asked why the government has not invited the striking unions' representatives for a dialogue, Subhani said none of them has sought any appointment as such.

Meanwhile, leaders of the Bihar State Non-Gazetted Employees Federation (BSNGES), BSNGES (Gope Faction) and Bihar Secretariat Services Association held a meeting late on Friday evening. Though details of the meeting were not known till the time of filing this report, sources said they were discussing their options before charting out the future course of action.
