Wonder girl Laxmi undergoes second successful surgery

Jodhpur , Jan 22 A second surgery was conducted successfully on three-year-old Laxmi, who got the nation&aposs attention after being born with extra limbs, at a hospital here brightening her chances of normal physical functions.
Born with extra limbs, a medical condition known as" Ischiopagus Tetrapus"or parasitic conjoined twin at the pelvis, Laxmi had undergone a marathon surgery in Bangalore in November 2007 to rectify the deformity.

Today&aposs surgery was to rectify her twisted feet, which had rendered her unable to walk.

"We have rectified the deformity. She will have to remain in the hospital for 3-4 days after that stitches will be removed", head of orthopaedic department, doctor Vinod Katzoo.

Born to a poor family in Rampur village of Araria district in Bihar, Laxmi was considered the incarnation of Goddess Laxmi earlier due to her 4 legs, 4 hands, 2 kidneys and 2 hearts.

Young Laxmi was operated upon in Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore at the age of 2 years. The 27-hour long surgery was conducted by 36 doctors. Though the&aposparasite&aposwas removed, her feet remained twisted.

After the successful operation, Laxmi was adopted by the Sucheta Kriplani Shiksha Niketan of Manaklav near Jodhpur .

Katzoo said she would now require surgery only for correcting problems in urinary tract.

Her parents are hopeful that she would be like any other child now.
