1,435 SIs inducted into police force -BMP

PATNA: Bubbling with zeal and enthusiasm and a determination to do something positive for society, in all, 1,435 newly-recruited sub-inspectors
(SIs), including 100 women SIs, in navy blue trouser and sweater and white shirt trotted into the BMP-5 ground at Phulwarisharif for formal induction into the police force on Sunday morning. It was after 18 years, the SIs were appointed in the state.

As head of the police force, D N Gautam had a word of advise for these SIs, "The more you sweat during training the less blood would spill in field posting." He told SIs to take their training seriously and rigorously which would ultimately help them in shaping up as best policeman. Gautam said that it is the police force which has to face the first war on society. "If you are not fit enough to overcome such war, the society would disintegrate," he said.

He said the police is the first ambassador of a society and cautioned new SIs not to indulge in any nefarious activities which would force your parents, the police force and ultimately the entire state to hang their heads in shame. He said the recruitment of SIs in such a largescale has been possible because of the untiring effort of ADG Anil Sinha.

The DGP said that a police academy is coming up in the state and in the next few months it would be ready to impart training to new recruits. But in the meantime, the new SIs would be drafted to four different battalions of the BMP and Constable Training School (CTS), Nathnagar, Bhagalpur, for training. Gautam also released a police magazine on the occasion.

Earlier, speaking at the function, ADG (headquarters) Neelmani said that as many as 2,149 SIs have been appointed after 1994. However, only 1,435 have been inducted and rest would be brought into the police fold after proper medical tests and other formalities. He said of the new appointees, 136 would be sent to urban police stations, 54 would be deputed on Bihar-Nepal border, 289 in Naxalite-hit areas, 34 in Muffasil police station, 39 in railway police, rest would be sent to DG control room, N-H patrol, traffic regulation, economic offence wing (EOW) of the CID, and special branch.

He said "Since sub-inspectors are cutting edge between police and public you (SIs) must shape up in a fashion to improve the police image in society." The programme was anchored by DIG (Central range) G S Gangwar.
