Patna , Feb 22 The Bihar government today gave its nod for setting up a branch of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Kishanganj district.
The state had received a proposal from AMU&aposs Vice-Chancellor Prof P K Abdul Aziz in December last year to set up a branch of AMU in the state and the government today cleared the proposal to set up the branch at Kishanganj district, Chief Minister&aposs Principal Secretary R C P Singh said here.
Meanwhile, the NCP is surprised over the state government&aposs decision of setting up the proposed campus in Kishanganj and not in Katihar&aposas demanded&aposby the VC.
NCP leader Tariq Anwar said the University&aposs VC had written a letter to Bihar Chief Minister for providing a land to set up AMU&aposs branch in Katihar district."How it (the place ) was changed at the last moment can only be better explained by the state government,"he said.
Keeping in view the recommendations of Justice Sachar Committee, the Centre had decided to open five branches of AMU in the country, including one in Bihar, at an estimated cost of Rs 2000 crore, Anwar said.
