PATNA: The Bihar cabinet on Monday approved the 2009-10 budget to be presented in the coming session of the state legislature commencing from
February 24.
The governor's speech to the joint session of the state legislature, third supplementary budget and appropriation Bill also got the cabinet nod.
The state government's resolve to tame corrupt babus was also reflected in the cabinet meeting where it was decided to create 41 new posts in the State Vigilance Investigation Bureau (SVIB). It was done to reduce the burden on SVIB following the unprecedented rise in the number of public servants being caught taking bribe and to clear long-pending cases.
A sum of Rs 202 crore was sanctioned to the Infrastructure Development Authority (IDA) for a land bank scheme under which IDA would acquire land which would be used for different projects.
Approval was also given for constructing "e-kisan bhawans" in 166 blocks of the state to help farmers, said principal cabinet secretary, Girish Shanker.An amount of Rs 68.89 crore would be spent on their construction.
Keeping in view of problems being faced by those willing to invest in tourism sector in the absence of a clear-cut definition of the word "tourism", the cabinet gave approval to its definition according to which any activity which is related to tourism industry or those promoting it would be brought under its purview and get the benefit of the provisions of Industrial Promotion Policy, 2006.
The cabinet also sanctioned Rs 8.97 crore for the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) which would be used for purchase of new equipment as well as repair and maintenance of the old ones.
