PATNA: The railways have introduced pre-paid taxi services at Patna Junction to cater to the needs of tourists and local people. This facility
was earlier not available to the tourists and local people. This service has been introduced with the help of the State Tourism Development Corporation, said Danapur DRM B D Garg.
According to him, the railways have provided adequate space near the main concourse area to the state tourism department to make the pre-paid taxi booth functional at Patna Junction. The railways recently removed illegal taxi owners from Patna Junction circulating area. They had been using railway space for illegally parking their vehicles at the Patna Junction circulating area. Now the railways have provided more parking space in the circulating area, he said.
The DRM said that the railways are working out the details to provide pre-paid autorickshaw services at Patna Junction too. The railways intend to widen the circulating area at the main entrance point, particularly at both east and west ends of the station premises. This space can be used for pre-paid autorickshaw services, he said, adding the railways are keen to maintain a proper system in the circulating area.
The DRM said that the railways had served notices on illegal tonga stand owners at Patna Junction asking them to vacate railway land by February 13 failing which the railways would initiate legal action against them. He maintained that the railways would use this land for parking of more vehicles in the circulating areas.
According to Garg, the railways have launched a drive to free railway land completely from encroachments on both sides of Patna Junction. The railways removed all illegal encroachments from the Karbighaiya end of Patna Junction to ensure smooth movement of vehicles at that end. RPF personnel have been deployed to check encroachments completely at Karbighaiya end where the super speciality hospital of the railways was made functional recently, he said.
About the construction of an air-conditioned morgue at Patna Junction, the DRM said that the railways are keen to build it soon. However, the ongoing construction work has been stopped due to some confusion. He appealed to the people in general to co-operate with the railways and allow construction of the morgue at Patna Junction.
