UGC meet to discuss development plans of all varsities

PATNA: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to hold its interface committee meeting on the sprawling Magadh University (MU) campus
at Bodh Gaya soon to discuss development plans of all universities in Bihar. About 400 principals of all colleges in the state will attend the meeting, said College Development Council, MU, chairman R K Verma.

According to him, the UGC will hold this interface meeting for the first time on the university campus to assess the actual requirement of grants to different colleges in the state, besides motivating them to utilise UGC grants to further improve the academic atmosphere on university and college campus.

He said that MU VC B N Pandey is likely to hold a meeting with UGC chairman S K Thorat in New Delhi next month to finalise the dates of the meeting.

The university has also set up a core committee to start preparation for this mega event on the university campus, Verma said.

NAAC grade: College of Commerce has been granted NAAC grade B by the UGC team. The college, which scored maximum points in academic achievements, missed NAAC grade A by 0.08 points only for want of hostel and playground facilities, said college principal Subhash Prasad Sinha. He maintained that the college would make efforts to provide these two facilities soon to get further UGC appreciation.

Pact signed: Magadh University recently signed an agreement with Elgin Community College (ECC), Illinois, US, to promote academic and cultural activities between these two universities. ECC representative David Burke and MU VC held a meeting in this connection in Patna recently. It was agreed that students of these two universities would exchange research work of different subjects, including vocational, professional and conventional courses, MU VC B N Pandey said, adding an MoU would be signed soon in this connection.

Seminar held: The commerce department of B D College held a seminar on Saturday on the college campus. Many students, including girls, participated in it. Senior teacher of the department Sanjeev Nath introduced the seminar topic among the participants while HoD B Prasad extended a vote of thanks.
