Bihar not to allow Wal-Mart-Bharti stores

BANGALORE: Bihar Government would not allow Wal-Mart-Bharti joint venture to open any stores in the state as it would result in job losses.

Over five crore small businessmen such as fruits and vegetables sellers would be out of jobs once Wal-Mart-Bharti sets up stores in the country, JDU National General Secretary Arun Kumar Srivastava said today.

Srivastava said there was no question of allowing Wal-Mart-Bharti as the government had earlier not allowed big retailers such as Big Bazaar and Reliance to set up their shops.

"We have not allowed Reliance (so, where is the question of allowing Wal-Mart-Bharti)", he told reporters.

He said UPA had promised employment to one crore people but only 16 lakh jobs were created and that too in the expressway road projects, which was initiated by the previous NDA government.
