PATNA: Noted joint replacement surgeon of Kanpur Dr A S Prasad on Saturday said the joint replacement surgery was proving to be a boon for the
people undergoing the surgery as with successful safe procedure they are able to lead a healthy life with active participation in the society.
Addressing a press conference on joint replacement scenario in Bihar at Mahavir Vatsalya Aspatal, Dr Prasad said that problems requiring joint replacement was more common among people above 60 years in India. As many as 11 per cent of the people in India are above 60 years today which was three per cent 20 years back, he said.
Dr Prasad said that as per report of the United Nations, this percentage would reach 36 in 2050. He said that surprisingly in Patna district alone, the number of persons requiring joint replacement surgery is 4,500 out of 4.5 lakh population above 60 years.
He said that his motive behind coming to Patna was to create mass awareness about joint replacement surgery. Prominent among others who spoke on the occasion included Dr S S Jha.
