Patna student bags first prize

PATNA: A sixth semester student of electronics and communication engineering at Birla Institute of Technology
(Patna campus), Suraj Kumar
Chandra, has brought laurels to the state by winning the first prize at Cognizance '09 held at IIT Roorkee recently.

Participating in the Spotlight event for electronics and communication at the competition, he was finally selected to give presentation in front of renowned IIT Roorkee professors, who posed him counter-questions. The problem he had to solve related to traffic light controller or the Disc game for two players. Suraj chose to develop the Disc game.

"While designing the hardware, he had the overall cost of the device in mind. At the same time, he lay emphasis on using minimum number of components, less power consumption and faster and reliable operation. His efforts and his works were greatly appreciated," said Prashant Kumar, a professor with the electronics and communication engineering wing of BIT here.
