PU offices to become paperless soon

PATNA: The offices of Patna University (PU) and all its constituent units are likely to become paperless soon. All notifications and circulars of
the university would now be available at the click of a mouse, thanks to the proposed networking of different wings of PU.

PU vice-chancellor Shyam Lal told TOI that all colleges and post-graduate departments of the university would be interlinked through local area network (LAN) within a couple of months. A blueprint for this interlinking at an estimated cost of Rs 62 lakh has already been finalised and work is to start very soon. After the completion of this project, students of different institutions would also benefit.

Students of a particular class of one institution may listen to the lecture delivered by a subject teacher of another institution via teleconferencing. This facility would compensate the academic loss owing to dearth of teachers in different subjects. Besides, researchers can access important journals of their subjects concerned.

The VC is also very keen on toning up research activities on the campus. He convened a meeting of heads of post-graduate departments of the science faculty recently to discuss ways of improving the infrastructural facilities in all departments for carrying out research activities. All departments were asked to apply to UGC for the sanction of grants under special assistance programme (SAP). The geology department of PU has already received handsome grants under SAP of UGC recently. The departments were also asked to encourage teachers to apply to various funding agencies for individual research grants, the VC added.
