Strengthen Cong to change Bihar: Rahul

BUXAR/AURANGABAD: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday kicked off party’s poll campaign in Bihar saying people should vote
Congress to power because the Manmohan Singh government delivered what the party promised during the polls five years ago.

“Bihar mein pure pradesh ko NDA sarkar ne loot rakha hai,” Rahul told a mammoth gathering at Buxar’s ITI Maidan. He lashed out at the Nitish Kumar-led state government
for its failure to implement NREGA (National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) properly in the state.

“There are no jobs in the state and people of Bihar are migrating to Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi in search of employment,” he said and exhorted youths to strengthen the hands of Congress so as to help it “change Bihar”.

Congress, he said, is the only party that could deal with the scourge of terrorism decisively without, at the same time, weakening the country’s social fabric. It was the Congress-led government’s diplomatic campaign post-26/11 that compelled Pakistan to admit that its citizens were responsible for the Mumbai mayhem.

In Aurangabad’s Gandhi Maidan, the 38-year-old Congress leader questioned the state government’s role during the catastrophic floods in the Kosi-belt last year. “It failed to provide relief measures to the victims,” he said. He criticized the opposition parties of the country for being pro-rich and pro-market. “Their concern for the downtrodden, tribals and backward classes is mere gimmick,” he said. “My father had a dream for India and all that I am trying to do is to fulfil that dream,” he said.
