Agri varsity to come up in Bihar: CM

Patna , May 22 Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced setting up of an agriculture university in the Shahabad region of Bihar.
Agricultural production in the state would be doubled over the next four years by pursuing the road map for agriculture earlier unveiled by his government, Kumar said at his first public function after NDA&aposs emphatic win in the Lok Sabha elections in Bihar.

Kumar, who dedicated to the people the newly beautified Veer Kuer Singh Park at Ara, headquarters of Bhojpur district in Shahabad region, launched his seed extension programme at the function.

The roadmap for agriculture gave emphasis on rise in production of foodgrains as well as of pulses, oilseeds, fruit, vegetables, milk and fish, Kumar said adding an agriculture university would come up in Shahabad, the land of vast paddy fields earning the sobriquet -&aposthe rice bowl&aposof Bihar.

The roadmap elaborated the need for improved management of quality seeds, fertiliser and pesticides, storage, processing and marketing of agricultural produce, the CM said.

Kumar said the Indian Council of Agriculture Research had lauded the roadmap and asked other states to follow it.
