In a move to encourage faster implementation of projects under the National e-Governance plan (NeGP) in Bihar, the UPA government has released the first funds for setting up a state data center (SDC) in the state.

To be set up at a cost of Rs. 53 crore, the SDC will be located at Beltron Bhavan, the nodal agency for implementing NeGP projects in Bihar.

Beltron wants to set up the SDC by end 2009-10. The agency will soon float tenders to invite bids for operations and maintenance.

It must be mentioned here that besides SDC, Bihar already has its own data center named Bihar Revenue Administration Intra Net (BRAIN). Apart from storing data generated by all treasuries of the state, the BRAIN DC also stores data generated by the all VAT offices and those by the state secretariat. SDC will act as a disaster recovery site for BRIAN and vice versa.

Many other services like Internet telephony, video conferencing, Internet, intranet and department specific applications are being run by using the centralized architecture software loaded at the DC.
