The welfare plans would be aimed at providing housing facility and other measures for ensuring socio-economic and political empowerment of Mahadalits, Manjhi said, adding the Mahadalit Commission had already submitted its two interim reports on the measures be taken up for the uplift of Mahadalits -- extremely backward and poorest among the poor Dalits.
Mr. Manjhi said the state government had decided to provide land to the families of Mahadalits across the state for construction of houses under Mahadalit Development Scheme.
He estimated that about 4,000 acres of land would be acquired for the purpose.
The total number of landless Mahadalit families, according to statistics made available from the districts, was 1,05,913, official sources said.
