Lalan re-elected Bihar JD-U chief

Lok Sabha member from Munger, Rajiv Ranjan Singh 'Lalan' has been re-elected president of Bihar unit of JD-U unopposed.

"Till last date of filing nomination, Lalan is the only person in the fray," presiding officer Chandeshwar Prasad Chandravansi said on Saturday.

He said though Lalan was declared elected unopposed to head the party's state unit for the second term, a formal announcement would be made at the state JD-U executive committee meeting in Patna on Sunday.

Lalan's name for the post was proposed by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and seconded by state Water Resources minister Jagdanand Singh.

The executive committee meeting is likely to discuss the party's poor performance in the recent assembly bypolls in the state.

JD-U, heading the ruling coalition in the state, bagged three of the 18 seats where bypolls were held, while its ally BJP got two. The JD-U could retain only three of the 10 seats which it had held before the by-elections yielding three to RJD, two to Congress and one each to BSP and Independent.

The meeting will also evolve a strategy to further expand and strengthen the party organisation.
