Bihar CM requests PM for AIIMS status to SKMCH

Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar today urged prime minister Manmohan Singh to accord AIIMS status to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH).

Kumar sent the letter to the prime minister after a few MPs from Bihar, including former union minister and RJD MP Raghuvansh Prasad Singh wrote to him recently for the upgradation of SKMCH and AIIMS status to it.

In his letter, a copy of which was released to press, Kumar said under the prime minister Swasthya Surkhsha Yojna not a single medical college of Bihar had been chosen for upgradation.

SKMCH has 600 beds and caters to over 2500 outdoor patients every day. Besides, due to its location on NH 77 on the East-West corridor and 175 acres under it, it can cater to the needs of about four crore people of north Bihar.

"I and the people of Bihar will be highly obliged if the SKMCH was upgraded and accorded the status of AIIMS," Kumar's letter said.
