Bihar angle to Ruchika case

The much-hyped Ruchika Girhotra suicide case has a Bihar angle. The investigating officer of the case, in which former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore is allegedly involved, was a Bihar cadre IPS officer, Rajesh Ranjan.

Ranjan is now Inspector General (IG), Headquarters, based in Patna. The 1984-batch IPS officer was then on Central deputation and posted as DIG, CBI, when he was asked to probe the matter.

Sources said Ranjan, as the probe officer, had then refused to record the statement of Ruchika’s brother, Ashu, who insisted that his sister had committed suicide after the family was harassed at the behest of Rathore, who was then posted as IG in Haryana.

“All I could recall is that a noted lawyer from Chennai had gone through the entire records before the final chargesheet was submitted against Rathore,” said Ranjan.
