New Emergency Care Hospital in Patna

An 82-bed emergency care hospital—Ruban Emergency Hospital—is coming up at SP Verma Road in Patna. The Hospital was created after renovating an under-utilised nursing home. The premises were taken over in June 2006 and put under renovation. The Hospital is likely to be commissioned by the second week of this month. With further planned acquisition of premises, the bed strength is expandable to 125 beds.
The Hospital would have 12 ICU beds, nine high dependency beds, three deluxe rooms, 18 single-bed private rooms and 40 economy beds (general wards). The Hospital would have two operating rooms, a separate reception-cum-triage area and diagnostic facilities include CT-scan, X-ray, ultrasound including color doppler and echocardiography and pathology tests. There is also a facility of extension counter of an existing blood bank to ensure easy availability of blood to the needy patients. The proposed Hospital would also offer pre-hospital pick-up and transportation under life support measures for emergency and critical care patients through specially-modified ambulances as mobile intensive care units.
Says Founder Chairman Col AK Singh, Ruban Emergency Hospital, "As a healthcare professional, I have felt an acute lack of organised emergency medical services facility which includes pre-hospital and hospital care components in Patna. With Patna being my native place, I have a strong motivation to do as much as I can to improve the quality of medical care."
"I feel that this emergency Hospital will also be a fore-runner of more centers of this nature at Patna and other parts of Bihar. This facility will also be the anchor for developing pre-hospital medical care in Patna," says Col Singh.
The funds for this Rs-7-crore-project were made available from the surplus, which came from the proceeds of the Kidney Specialty Hospital and Dr Ruban Memorial Hospital—Other hospitals founded by Col Singh. "I have also taken term loans from the State Bank of India (SBI) and friendly borrowing from well wishers," informs Col Singh.
