PATNA: The East Central Railway (ECR) is likely to submit several new proposals to the ministry of railways for their inclusion in the railway budget for the year 2008-2009, slated to be presented in the Lok Sabha on February 26.
The proposals include introduction of new trains, increase in the frequency of long-distance trains and extension of super fast trains.
According to sources, the ECR has proposed to run the fourth fully air- conditioned Garib Rath on Jayanagar-Delhi (Nizamuddin) route. Besides, it has proposed to run a new train between Jayanagar and Saharsa. Extension of Danapur -Darbhanga Intercity Express up to Jayanagar has also been proposed by the ECR to railway ministry, the sources said, adding a new super fast train like Shatabdi linking Patna and Ranchi has also been proposed by the ECR for its inclusion in the rail budget.

The Patna Ernakulam Express, which is currently running thrice a week, is also being proposed for its extension up to Thiruvananthapuram or Kanniyakumari as Patna is not directly linked to these places.
The frequency of Patna- Pune Express has now been increased to four days a week. The ECR has proposed its extension up to Goa at least for a day in a week.
An ECR official said railways propose to run a circular train and more multiple electric modified unit (MEMU) trains particularly on the mainline and other sections of Danapur division. Besides, there is also a proposal to increase the number of bogies in each MEMU train.
Railways are likely to consider the extension of the Guwahati- Jhajha passenger train up to Patna or Danapur. Introduction of an Intercity Express between Patna and Buxar has also been proposed, the sources said and added that railways also plan to run the Guwahati- New Delhi Rajdhani Express via Barauni - Muzaffarpur.
