PATNA: Minister of state for cooperatives Ramdeo Das Rishidev informed the Bihar legislative council on Monday that the government was committed to reviving cooperative movement in the state. Replying to a debate on the budgetary allocation made to the cooperative department in this year's state budget, he said the state government last year signed an MoU with Nabard and RBI with a view to reviving cooperatives in Bihar. "Now we are concentrating on revival of primary agriculture cooperative societies (PACSs) and auditing of more than 5,000 PACS have already been completed," he said. He also informed the House that efforts were on to frame rules for bringing share-croppers under the ambit of PACS. Minister of state for trade and food and civil supplies Suchitra Sinha informed the House about the steps taken during the last two and half years of NDA rule for strengthening the food and civil supplies department and for checking leakage in the delivery system which leads to non-delivery of necessary items to the target group. She also urged the members to come up with suggestions for further strengthening of the system and provide information in case any irregularity came to their notice. Earlier, commencing the debate, Narendra Prasad Singh drew attention of the House towards various drawbacks in the functioning of cooperatives in the state. Ram Badan Rai of JD(U), however, praised the achievements made in the short period of two and half years of NDA rule. Several other members, both from treasury and opposition benches, took part in the debate.
