Patna: Buoyed by the success of its surrender and rehabilitation policy for criminals, the NDA government in Bihar has come out with a similar surrender policy for naxalites envisaging a maximum cash compensation of Rs two lakh, a senior official said here today.Under the surrender policy for naxalites, the Nitish Kumar government has proposed a rehabilitation and compensation package for them.Special Secretary (Home) P N Roy told PTI here today that naxalites willing to lay down arms and join the mainstream of the society would be entitled to a maximum of Rs 200,000 compensation.Besides, the outlaws will be given Rs 10,000 immediately on their surrender with firearms and Rs 300 per month till their rehabilitation package was finalised, he said.Roy said the scheme finalised by the home department envisaged giving prize money to naxalites carrying rewards on their head.The scheme is also meant for such extremists with criminal antecedants but their record is not listed with the police, he said.To get the benefit of the scheme, such extremists should hold key positions in their respective militant organisation, the rehabilitation committee recommendations said.
