The Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Nitish Kumar held a meeting with the Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T.R. Baalu here today to discuss the implementation of road sector projects in Bihar under Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojna. The issues involved in the maintenance of NHs carrying heavy commercial traffic, repair and maintenance of Mahatma Gandhi Setu over river Ganga in Patna on NH-19 and improvement of condition of NH-31 with specific reference to Pasaraha zone were discussed. The Bihar Chief Minister made a plea to the Union Minister for allocation of additional funds for maintenance of National Highways in the State and sought the Ministry’s cooperation for expeditious concurrence to the State Road projects under the Planning Commission’s special package for Bihar. The Minister assured Shri Kumar that his Ministry would extend full cooperation and would provide all technical support for the development of road infrastructure in the State. The State Government officials would meet the Secretary (Road Transport & Highways) tomorrow to draw up an action plan for the projects discussed during today’s meeting and also for sorting out project-specific problems. Thiru. T.R. Baalu informed the Chief Minister that earlier out of the 890-km NHs in Bihar, only two road stretches were identified for implementation under NHDP III-A, but now the Ministry has decided to include all the 890-km road stretches for upgradation to four-laning under NHDP Phase-IIIA. Shri Nitish Kumar welcomed this initiative of the Central Government and complimented the Union Minister for the expeditious improvement of road infrastructure in Bihar.
