PATNA, (BIHAR), July 14 - Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar last week expressed concern on the rise in water levels in the Koshi and Bagmati rivers causing flood in Bihar every year, has said that Nepal government should utilize its hydropower potential for its economic growth.
Speaking with the Nepalese journalists recently, Kumar said that investment should not be a problem, and also the fixation of price for purchase of power by India.
However, Kumar suggested building dams on the Koshi so that Nepal can produce hydropower. "While Bihar suffers for a few months, it ultimately gets fertile mud, which Nepal loses every year," Bihar CM pointed out.
Meanwhile, expressing happiness over Nepal's progress towards democracy, Kumar said that there is no comparison in the world to the degree of emotional relationship between India and Nepal.
The Chief Minister also reminisced being jailed in 1975-76 along with Nepal's political leaders and political activists. Kumar said that Nepal's first elected prime minister B P Koirala as well as Girija Prasad Koirala had spent their days in Bihar.
Speaking strongly in favor of the open border between the two countries, Kumar said that frontiers were formed later while the settlements came first.
"There is so much of relationship between us," Kumar said. "There are cross border marriages," he added.
While refuting to comment on Nepal's internal affairs, Kumar, however congratulated Nepal on behalf of the people of Bihar over their achievement.
Meanwhile, Kumar, who became the 33rd chief minister of Bihar after a long stint of Lalu Prasad Yadav came to an end, said that security situation in Bihar was much better now.
