State cops to get training from Army

PATNA: The Bihar police on Wednesday tied up with the Indian Army for training to counter insurgency. After a meeting attended by IG (training) C Lima Imchen, IG (HQ) Anil Sinha, and Col of Bihar, Orissa, Jharkhand sub-area, A P Pandey on Wednesday, Sinha told TOI though the state police have trained personnel with its Special Auxiliary Police (SAP), it is a contractual force meant for only one year. "The regular force has to be trained on par with them; hence, coordination with the Army," he said. The first batch of 100 policemen and 20 junior officers of the state police would be trained at Bihar Regimental Centre from July 31, 2006. They would undergo training for one month. One week after completion of their training, another batch of policemen would go for the training. "This process will continue for 2-3 years," Sinha said. A batch of 20 junior police officers would be sent to Mizoram for training as instructor in the jungle warfare while the same number of officers would be drafted to Jabalpur where they would be imparted training in handling IEDs. "These instructors would later become regular trainer at the Police Training Institute, which is being set up," Sinha said.
