His simple yet effective methods have earned his Patna institute kudos and recognition from various quarters. Now, Anand Kumar is set to take a step forward by giving his institute an e-edge.From next month, students who aspire to be part of Ramanujan School of Mathematics will get all the information they need by visiting www.super30.org, the website for the now-famous Super 30.
The motive behind going online is easier and wider access to talent in the interiors of Bihar. Kumar, who wants to make the most of the availability of Internet in subdivisional towns, will provide information ranging from Super 30 objectives and faculty to the selection process and contacts.
The Super 30 students are chosen from the socially and economically backward sections of society. As many as 94 students of the school have cracked the entrance examination of the Indian Institutes of Technology so far.
To become a part of Super 30, a student has to first clear a preliminary test and then sit for an interview. Once through, a student will get free lodging and food for the eight-month course in which he/she will be prepared for the IIT entrance exam.
Former Miss Japan Norika Fujiwara recently visited the school to shoot a documentary on the IT boom in India and the contribution of Super 30 to Indian education.
A Japanese television channel and BBC had earlier made documentaries on the school.
Kumar, who is designing the website, told The Telegraph: “Until now, rural students had been getting information on us from newspapers, television channels and the alumni. The website will help us reach out to more talented students.”
“Students in the villages know a bit about Internet now. Once we get feedback from them, we may end up getting more talented Super 30 batches,” he hoped.
