PATNA: The state government has sanctioned Rs 2.87 crore for the renovation of the Patna Museum. The funds would be used for improving the lighting facility, construction and purchase of security equipment.
Established in 1928, the Patna Museum houses many rare artifacts and has been a major tourist attraction in Bihar.
The renovation work is already underway and the floor of the museum has been re-laid to give a new look to its building. Construction of new pathways and benches under shades are other additions to the museum for the convenience of visitors.
Work for cleanliness and maintenance of the garden has been given to a private agency. A two-layer security arrangement has been put in place to guard the building.
Steps have also been taken for digital documentation of artifacts displayed at the museum.
Meanwhile, the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA) has earmarked a fund of Rs 11 lakh for setting up solar energy-based electrical gadgets which would be used for ensuring an uninterrupted power supply to five museums in Patna, Drabhanga, Gaya, Nawada and Buxar.
Giving this information, state art and culture secretary Vivek Kumar Singh said that there was also a proposal to purchase projectors for Patna, Gaya and Darbhanga museums.
These would be used for screening films based on the items on display in the museums.
