"Desi Chikitsa" gets Recognition

 
PATNA: Health minister Nand Kishore Yadav on Wednesday said "deshi chikitsa" or indigenous system of medicines-cadre employees would now be treated on a par with their allopathic medicine-cadre colleagues. They would have now the same service conditions as applicable to allopathic medicine-cadre staff.

Addressing a press conference, the minister said the retirement age of the "deshi chikitsa"-cadre staff would be increased from 60 to 62 years. PG students of the "deshi chikitsa" faculties would be given the same stipend of Rs 13,000 as that given to junior PG students of allopathic system of medicines while a sum of Rs 15,000 would be given to senior PG students of "deshi chikitsa" faculties.

Yadav also said "deshi chikitsa" doctors would be appointed along with allopathic doctors at government hospitals, right from primary health centres to sadar hospitals. Patients would have a choice to opt for either of the two systems of treatment.

He also said the department has decided to fill up 1,500 vacancies of "deshi chikitsa" doctors in the state. The "deshi chikitsa" directorate has been asked to identify the medicines of indigenous system for free distribution among patients at the government health centres and hospitals. To revive Government Ayurvedic Medical Colleges, a meeting of the principals of all the five colleges has been convened next month. The meet will chalk out ways for the betterment of these colleges, said Yadav.

The government would set up two research centres __ one for the Ayurvedic and the other for the Unani medicines. The Ayurvedic research centre would be set up on the campus of Government Ayurvedic College, Kadamkuan.

The location of Unani Medicine Research Centre has not yet been finalised, said Yadav.
