Nitish asks Centre to have a rethink on ethanol policy

Nitish Kumar, chief minister of the Indian state of Bihar, has sent a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar asking for a review of the amendment of the Sugarcane Control Order, a 1966 law that prohibits the manufacture of ethanol from sugar cane juice without producing sugar. Kumar said the amendment contradicts the country's ethanol blending program and could jeopardize the efforts of the state government to become an ethanol hub. Business Standard (India) (06/09)
