Plans underway to set up 300 polytechnic institutes in India

Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development M A A Fatimi today said that plans are underway to set up 300 polytechnic colleges in the country.

Fatimi, who represents Darbhanga constituency in Lok Sabha, said that polytechnic colleges will come up in those districts where there is no such facility and at the central government's cost.

A letter asking for the allotment of land has been written to the concerned states, Fatmi said. He said 700 new polytechnic institutes will also be opened in the near future under the public-private partnership scheme.

Stating that a network of technical education will be laid in Bihar, Fatimi said the HRD ministry has given its nod to set up 34 polytechnic colleges in the state, including one at Darbhanga for which Rs 418 crore will soon be allotted.In the first phase, polytechnic institutes would be set up in the districts of Katihar, Araria, Lakhisarai, Nalanda and East Champaran, he said.

The minister said that in the second phase, among other districts one such institute would be set up at Darbhanga for which the HRD ministry has written to the state government to provide land and submit a detailed project report.
