Times of India Reports :

PATNA: Keeping pace with the changing times, Patna University (PU) has of late started networking of all its offices and institutions. Now the
officers, teachers and employees of the university can be accessed by the click of a mouse.

Giving this information here on Wednesday, PU vice-chancellor Shyam Lal said that in the first phase, networking of different sections of the university office has been completed. In the second phase, networking of colleges up to Patna Law College in the east and up to Darbhanga House in the west would be taken up. In the final phase, networking of all the remaining institutions would be undertaken.

Efforts have also been made to improve the accounting system of the university. The university has planned to introduce double-entry system from the current financial year itself. Some employees have been given special training for the computerised accounting system (tally). By doing so, the university will be more transparent in the accounting system and the number of audit objections will also be reduced considerably, said the vice-chancellor.

Lal further pointed out that the state government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 3 crore for the repair of heritage buildings under PU. The repair and renovation work of the university office buildings, buildings of Patna College and Darbhanga House have already been taken up. The university has approached the government for more funds for the repair of other buildings, including hostels and teachers' residential quarters.

On the basis of an expert committee report, which visited the university recently to assess its development plans, the UGC has sanctioned a sum of Rs 6 crore for the XI plan period under General Plan Development Assistance. The university expects to get a good sum from the UGC for buildings and staff during the current plan period, the VC added.
