Patna, Feb 03: Close on the heels of the LJP, a constituent of the Centre's rulling alliance, seeking 16 of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, the Congress on Tuesday staked claim to 14 seats.
"We have apprised the party high command of our willingness and preparedness to contest 11 seats which are currently held by NDA apart from the three Lok Sabha seats we won in the last elections," Bihar PCC President Anil Sharma told reporters.
Asked if he foresaw a 'complete adjustment', particularly after the Congress and LJP together staked claim to 30 seats, leaving just ten for their biggest ally, Lalu Prasad's RJD, Sharma said "there exists every possibility as our primary aim is the defeat the JD(U)-BJP alliance."
Citing the example of 1996 when the Congress supported the United Front at the Centre to form the government to keep BJP out of power, Sharma said "We are ready to make any sacrifice to defeat the communal forces."
"We can limit the NDA to a single digit this time through an effective and honest alliance," the BPCC president said.
