PU Toppers Awarded Gold Medals

PATNA: It was a red-letter day for Patna University scholars on Monday when they were awarded gold medals for securing highest marks in different
examinations. As many as 25 toppers of different subjects received the gold medals at an impressive function held in the academic council hall. PU has revived the practice of awarding gold medals, which had been discontinued for about two decades for want of sufficient funds as well as apathy of the authorities concerned. The late Birendra Kumar Sinha gold medal was awarded to the toppers of BA economics honours examination for the last five sessions, including Gautam Kumar Jha, Ashish Kumar Jha, Shilmita Bannerji, Priyadarshi Ashok and Richa Jha. The B N Jain gold medal was awarded to the toppers of LLB examinations of the last five batches, including Meeta Mohini, Reshma Verma, Pramod Kumar, Nibha Sinha and Arpana Swaraj. The J C Mukherjee gold medal was received by Rajnish Ranjan for topping the LLM examination of 2006. The Nanda Rani gold medal was bagged by Krishna Kant Ojha and Ravi Shanker Chaudhary for topping the MA/MSc examinations of 2005 and 2006 respectively. Shruti Jaitley and Dinesh Kumar, who topped the MCom examinations of 2005 and 2006 respectively, were awarded Dr B R Mishra gold medal. The Khusrow gold medal was awarded to the toppers of MA (Persian) examination, Mohd Rashid (2005) and Sayeeda Amaan (2006). Shrimati Radha Sahay gold medal for securing highest marks in MA (Ancient Indian History and Archaeology) examinations in 2005 and 2006 was awarded to Ranjit Kumar and S Sahbaz Sakil. The toppers of MA (philosophy, Sanskrit and Bengali) examinations of 2005 and 2006 batches -- Mohd Ziaul Hassan, Pooja Bharti, Rohit Ranjan, Navneeta, Istiak Ahmad and Sekhar Ghosh -- were awarded Prof Dhirendra Mohan Dutta gold medal. Awarding these gold medals to the toppers in the presence of their guardians, PU VC Shyam Lal underlined the need of healthy academic competition among the students as it prepares them for bigger challenges in life. He said the university is striving hard to provide all the basic facilities to its students and award the achievers. PU pro-VC S I Ahson, dean of students welfare K N Paswan, proctor Ras Bihari Prasad Singh, registrar Vibhas Kumar Yadav and examination controller Surendra Prasad also attended the function.
