Bihar Guv supports Nitish's demand for special status

PATNA: Bihar Governor Devanand Konwar has supported Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's demand for a special status to the state.

"I support the demand of the chief minister for a separate state category to Bihar," Konwar said at an informal talk with mediapersons on the occasion of Eid last evening.

"However, it is for the Centre to look into the merit and take decision on the issue," he said.

Referring to the problems facing the universities in Bihar, Konwar, who is the chancellor of universities, said he would meet all the vice-chancellors individually to deal with specific issues confronting each university.

He praised state human resources department minister Harinarain Singh for introducing a new system of monitoring the attendance of teachers and students.

Konwar said he had ordered the vice-chancellors to strictly implement the recommendations of the rationalisation committee on sanctioned strength of teachers in colleges and universities.

He also asked the state government to ensure payment of salary to the teachers of universities in the state on time.
